About

My Approach:

Before filming, a good actress must study her script until she’s entirely familiar with each page – until she is confident in her ability to experiment with the delivery of her lines.

I approach my clients’ work similarly. I will familiarize myself with your work until I am confident in my knowledge of its inner workings, moods, themes, and motivations. From this foundation of knowing, my suggestions are direct, thoughtful, informed, and solely intended to make your work sing – or punch your readers in the gut.

My aim is to make your work potent, impactful, and readable. I will weed out what weighs down the plot and encourage what lifts it; condense wandering thoughts and themes, clarify meaning and intention; ensure characters are fully developed, themes are fully explored, and no subplot goes unfinished. A hungry reader, I will find the meat and substance of your work and catch all that compromises it – dryness, over-detail, repetition, flatness – and suggest how to enrich and plump. As an editor and a reader, I will always strive to unite the beauty and the accessibility of your work.

Eva's "Punch" Theory:

Whether investigative journalism or prose poetry, a piece of writing should somehow punch the reader – with intention, with meaning, with brilliance. I edit to ensure your writing hits the reader with a strong, clear, and resounding impact, so it rings in their ears weeks after finishing. Your writing is already substantial; I’m here to refine that substance into its strongest, final form.

Specialties:

Narrative-driven fiction: women’s perspectives, young adult narratives, and historical dramas with themes of exile, war, romance, tragedy, and family dynamics.

Prepare Your Writing for the Publishing Market

Copy Editing / Line Editing
A close examination of syntax, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and paragraph structure. Refine clumsy sentences; achieve cohesion, focus, and clarity of thought; catch smaller plot and character discrepancies; enhance action, heighten evocations; polish overwriting, clumsiness, and run-on sentences; catch when you “tell” instead of “show”; catch repetition; ensure the core thoughts, emotions, and actions of your piece impact the reader deeply and clearly.
Develepomental Editing
Whether it is a full manuscript or just an outline, I will discover what means the most in your writing and suggest where to expand and where to cinch.
We can work together to: Brainstorm plot trajectory, character arcs and motives, fill in plot holes, and flesh out characters in order to form strong bones for the piece.
Deep Editing / Developmental Editing
A comprehensive edit of the overall structure, pace, themes, trajectories, and motivations in your piece. Includes more commentary and discussion. My goal here is to find anything that compromises or weighs down the piece as a whole: confusing character motivations, redundant ideas, denseness. We will find what wants expansion, depth, and further exploring; clarify character motivations and story arcs; narrow thematic focus; ensure timeline and plot consistency; refine rhythm and flow within the structure. We will enhance what means the most in your writing, so it means the most to your readers.
